Basic Care for Starting Off.....Sanitation is Your Best Friend!
What you'll need:
Extra things for extra boost and health:
Heat lamp will need to hang 18-24 inches above the brooder. Turkey Poults chill easier than Chicks, Ducklings, Goslings..etc. so they need a little extra attention.
Don't put the water near or under the lamp. It will heat the water and plus its common sense you wouldn't put the water near it. The water will get very hot for the babies and you don't want that. Typically the food and water should be in the opposite side of the heat lamp and that goes for all baby Fowl not just Turkeys.
- A draft free brooder
- 1 heat lamp
- 1 heat lamp bulb or 1 75 watt or 100 watt light bulb
- Pine bedding----very important Pine Only
- Feed---I use a 22% meat bird feed (Naturewise brand) and my poults do great on it
- (Medicated feed is a personal decision, I usually don't feed it)
- Clean non-softened water----can get salt poisoning
- Clean feeders and waterers
Extra things for extra boost and health:
- Vitamin and electrolyte supplement to drinking water
- Apple Cider Vinegar---just a little splash couple times a week only

It is always a good idea to own some sort of reading material related to your hobby. Here I have a Turkey magazine strictly on Turkeys. It provides just enough info for me.
I recommend owning and keeping on hand a care/health book of each specie of bird you have. Helps if you ever run into a problem with them and you're not sure what to do or what's wrong. With Fowl you learn something new everyday.
