Duck Breeder Rations
Where I live there are not Waterfowl rations available so usually I have to go with Chicken rations. Well for my breeder rations for Ducks I have a mix that I use and it works great for my Ducks.
Breeder Ration Mix:
This is fed 2-3 weeks before and throughout the laying season to ensure good shell quality and healthy eggs. When laying stops I stop feeding layer feed as Hens who are not laying do not need excess amounts of calcium.
Breeder Ration Mix:
- 8 1/2 parts chicken layer
- 1 part cat kibbles (You want high quality--not Purina, or any junk like that!! And I don't recommend using kibbles with the main meat being fish)
- 1/2 part calf-manna
This is fed 2-3 weeks before and throughout the laying season to ensure good shell quality and healthy eggs. When laying stops I stop feeding layer feed as Hens who are not laying do not need excess amounts of calcium.
***This year I am trying a breeder tonic which I made using my VetRx. It says on the instructions how to make the tonic. This helps give you healthy eggs and is very good for your birds. 1 tablespoon treated mash mixed with food once a day per 20 birds. For 10 birds or less just use a teaspoon. (This stuff is also used for colds and scaly legs and works great!)
Chicken breeder ration
I try to make sure my Chickens get to free range. When they do they get a lot of its and bits of stuff like worms and other goodies. I limit treats and make sure they have their formulated ration. I don't have Chicken 'Breeder' rations available to me so I make sure to use a Gamebird ration of at least 20%. I also use just normal Chicken Layer. I always try to give my birds including my Ducks a pro biotic in their water. My Chicken breeders also get a tablespoon per day of calf manna. And they will be getting this year the tonic talked about in the above reading.
